This year I also saw and tasted on Vievinum a lot of gastronomic products: bread, Italian olive-oil and Austrian vinegar (from Vienna), concentrated healthy juices, very special salt, spirits and products with truffle.
People in the Netherlands are not so keen on spending too much money for any of the products I mentioned above. Even if these products are superb.
Who would think of drinking vinegars with a low acidity? It seems very nice but for a price of € 29,- for 250ml I don’t know if the Dutch would be very interested.
At Gegenbauer where they manufacture these products they also make Balsamic, Beer and Malt, Fruit, Oaked and Wine vinegar. I tasted several vinegars including an Edelsauer P.X. Noble Sauer. Because it has less than 6% acidity you can’t call it an vinegar. It is than called an ‘Edelsauer’. You only get to taste a small drop of the elixir on the back of your hand. And then you slurp it of your hand. It is an amazing experience.
At Obsthof Retter (Since 1886) they produce liquors, spirits, oils and very fine bio-juices. Especially the juices made from wild pomegranate, apple or elderberry are good for your health. I learned that there are around 460 different types of pomegranate and that the wild pomegranate is one of the best to use. These juices are made to sell as a real health-product in Pharmacies because some of them are an antioxidant agent. Never in my life have I tasted such concentrated pure juices. If I had the money for it I would like to drink them quite often.
What would you say about salt with herbs? But they are not ordinary salts with herbs and spices put in to a salt-grill. When they make this salt, they incorporated the herbs or spices in salt-flakes. That is a whole different kind of salt-product. The aroma of the herbs or spices can only reveal itself when you grind the salt-flakes in a salt grinder. For the salt they use different types of salt from several countries www.saltinis.de.
Last but not least I tasted some very fine spirits from Wetter in a small glass that I never have seen before. But this glass makes the tasting of the spirit even more enjoyable. Vievinum has become a very good market for fine products and wines.
